In a significant move, US President Donald Trump has withdrawn Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, a senior White House official said on Friday.

Traditionally, former vice presidents receive federal protection for six months after leaving office, while ex-presidents are entitled to lifetime security. However, another source revealed that then-President Joe Biden had quietly issued a directive extending Harris’ protection beyond the standard six months.

According to a senior Trump administration official, an executive memorandum was issued Thursday to the Department of Homeland Security, terminating Harris’ security detail and related services. The Biden administration had extended her protection from six to 18 months, which was set to expire in July 2026. Now, it will end on Monday.

According to a White House official, a letter sent to Kamala Harris on Thursday informed her that the additional security protection would end on September 1.

Trump has previously revoked security coverage for several individuals who have been critical of him, including former national security adviser John Bolton. In March, he also withdrew protection for President Biden’s children, Hunter and Ashley Biden.

Next month, Harris is scheduled to begin a 15-city promotional tour for her memoir “107 Days,” which recounts her short-lived presidential campaign. She was the Democratic nominee for 107 days after Joe Biden exited the race following a disastrous debate against Trump. Although Trump ultimately defeated her, Harris has not ruled out another presidential run in 2028.

Meanwhile, amid growing tariff tensions with India, Trump once again claimed that he had averted a potential nuclear confrontation between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack in May. He also warned of imposing “high tariffs” and suspending trade deals with both South Asian nations unless they agreed to ease hostilities. Trump made the remarks during a Cabinet meeting at the White House on Tuesday.
